St. Thomas and mom's birthday!

We are having a GREAT time in St. Thomas! Here are a few pictures from our trip so far...

Will liked watching the planes at the airport

The pier at the bottom of some steps

Our first night here Matt grilled us dinner - chicken, corn, zucchini, pineapple, and rice with pineapple mango salsa - yum!

Yesterday was my mom's 60th birthday and Matt made her bananas (and mango) foster french toast!

My sister and mom eating breakfast with the crazy sunglasses Mary Beth brought!

Will's first time at the beach! Even though we've been in St. Simons for a month, we had not yet taken him to the beach so this was his first time being in the ocean!

In front of the restaurant we went to for mom's birthday - Oceana

All of the food was amazing - this was Mary Beth's steak and shrimp

The view was unbelievable - we had such a great time!

After dinner we brought mom a chocolate (gluten free!) sheet cake that we'd made earlier that morning while mom got a massage! You absolutely couldn't tell it was gluten free (it was Pamela's brand) - it was delicious!

And then we gave mom her gift that we'd been working on for about the last 6 months. Last December Mary Beth and I took all of mom's photographs and shipped them to a company called Scan Cafe that scans them so you can have them digitally (mom had no idea we'd taken them). I highly recommend this company - they will take photos in any format, and they have high quality scanners that make the photos look great and will even correct them if there are tears or anything on them. We sorted them chronologically and made her a book starting with my birth in 1980 through 1984. We'll give her the subsequent books for later occasions. I made the book with Blurb and couldn't be happier with it! I researched to find the highest quality books and I think it looks really good!

We are really enjoying St. Thomas - it is off season right now, so there aren't any crowds. We are planning to visit St. John tomorrow, and I've heard it is really beautiful. More pictures to come!

Will "walking"

We went out to eat with Matt's brother Beau and his fiance Kate this week at the Ocean Lodge - the location of their reception next April. They have a big terrace on the top floor that overlooks the ocean and it is beautiful up there! St. Simons Island doesn't really have any other restaurants with an ocean view, which has always been strange to me. We are excited for them and can't wait to go back next April!

Will has started "walking" while pushing a toy. He is so close to real walking! He has also started balancing with his hands up in the air.

And here is another picture of Will showing off his balancing skills!

We are leaving tomorrow to go to St. Thomas with my family! We are going to celebrate my mom turning 60 on Monday. I'm so excited and can't wait! Pictures to come...

Friends in town

Our friends Matt and Debbi and their 4 month old daughter Charlotte came to visit this week! They are friends from school and also have the summer off until September so we are glad we got to see them! They are from up north, so we got to introduce them to all things southern! We had a low country boil for dinner, which they'd never heard of...

And the next day we had to stop at the farmer's market and pick up some boiled peanuts, which they'd also never heard of!

Just in case they get married one day, they'll have a baby picture together (like Matt and I do) - you never know!

We went to the beach club and I think Charlotte had fun in the water spouts!

We are definitely going to miss them - we'll have to plan a visit to Boston soon to see them:)

More birthday fun!

Will's actual birthday was on Sunday, so we let him have more cake! I have never seen him have so much fun!

He was not so happy when the fun was finally over...

And playing with another gift from She-she and Grandaddy Dart

I had to give my baby lots of smooches on his birthday!

Sunday night we celebrated with just the three of us. We let Will stay up late and swim, and at 7:10pm central (the time he was born), we celebrated with champagne toasts! We made it through a year! Then Matt grilled filets, corn on the cob, and zucchini for dinner. It was awesome.

And to my sweet little boy:
  • Over the last few days you've started standing up and balancing without holding on to anything! You always look to make sure I'm watching you!
  • You've started liking bottles less and less and you like "real" food more and more. You still have 3-4 8oz bottles a day, but you eat a ton of food!
  • We can make you laugh now without tickling you - just by making funny faces!
  • You copy what you see your dad and I doing all the time! And you LOVE positive reinforcement! You'll do the same thing over and over if someone will clap for you!
  • You love to clap and do it all the time - when you are eating, when someone smiles at you, and any other random time.
  • We've seen you walk a few times while holding on to a push toy! It is so cute to watch you!
  • You sleep pretty consistently around 12 hours at night - you go to bed at 8 (give or take an hour) and you wake up at 8 (give or take an hour). You nap for about 1 1/2 hours in the morning and 2 hours in the afternoon.
  • You are a JOY to be around. You smile so much, which just melts your mama's heart! I love you!
